Carolina Ascent FC is looking to end their regular inaugural season on a high note — with a final home game win on Saturday, May 17 against Tampa Bay Sun FC (you’re on, TBAYtoday) — clenching home-field advantage for the first-ever USL Super League playoffs.

“We’re pushing for the crowd and really want to get that last home win because, obviously, Tampa is a really tough opponent,” Carolina Ascent FC Forward Mia Corbin told CLTtoday.

Pack the pitch

  • Where: American Legion Memorial Stadium
  • Kick-off: 7 p.m.

“It’s the last home game, let’s end it with a bang,” said Corbin. “Hopefully, we do have playoffs, but just keep supporting us like you have done all year long.”

Editor’s note: The team still has two away games in their inaugural season available via Peacock.

An historic ascent

The Ascent started the season with a bang. Charlotte native Vicky Bruce scored the first goal in USL Super League and Carolina Ascent FC history during the team’s first match in August 2024. Since then, several players, including 17-year-old B Hylton, scored their first professional goals.

“Having B score her first goal was amazing for us, and I think we were all just so excited for her,” shared Corbin.

City Editor Maria, here. While Corbin shared her admiration for her team, I must note she’s a player to watch. Corbin’s in the running for the Golden Boot — aka she’s one of the league’s top scorers.

But all eyes are on Saturday’s home match.

“I really want us to win the whole thing. And so that’s kind of more of what I’m trending on,” said Corbin. “It’d be so meaningful to the club and to the fans. They push us to play well, so I would just say that matters a lot more.”
