Mark your calendars for July 5 and July 12, 2025. The Queen City is becoming a major destination for rugby — the USA Eagles, the US men’s national rugby team, is slated to play two international matches at American Legion Memorial Stadium, home of Anthem Rugby Carolina.

“This is the highest level of rugby that’s ever been played in Charlotte and a really amazing opportunity for rugby fans,” Patrick Stack, president of Anthem RC told reporters.

If you’re new to rugby, or didn’t know we had a professional team in the Queen City, here’s everything you need to know.

Anthem Rugby Carolina, or Anthem RC, kicked off its inaugural season in 2024 and competes in Major League Rugby, as a developmental team for the USA Eagles.

Fun fact: Anthem RC has 11 Eagles on its roster.

While the team just started professionally in the Queen City, the sport has been around for many years.

“We’ve got a number of adult rugby clubs that exceed expectations here, including the Charlotte Rugby Club which has been around since 1971,” explained Stack. “It’s one of the best rugby clubs in the Southeast. In fact, Charlotte Rugby Club helped develop some USA Eagle talent you’re going to see here today.”

Spain vs. USA Rugby | Saturday, July 12 | 7:30 p.m.

“We’ve already played Spain twice, we’ve beat them,” explained Anthem RC Coach Alama Ieremia. “We’re looking forward to having that game because I don’t believe we’ve actually played Netherlands yet at this stage. So, we’re quite excited.”

Ticket presales begin Thursday, March 27 + officially go on sale Friday, March 28.

Can’t wait for this summer? You can watch Anthem RC’s home matches at American Legion Memorial Stadium. Tickets range $18-46.
