Pack those bags for your next staycation. The Moxy Hotel is preparing to open this summer in Uptown, offering a unique chance for guests to become adventure-seekers and art lovers all in one stay.

City Editor Jack got a sneak peek at the interior that’s sure to make you say “wow.”

Nitty-gritty

Construction on the Millennial-focused hotel at the corner of Brevard and Fourth streets began in early 2023. Once open, it will feature a rooftop lounge, 200+ rooms, and ground-floor retail. Plus, it will be within walking distance to the soon-to-be revamped Spectrum Center and Queen City Quarter.

Moxy guests will find numerous murals designed by local artists + a rooftop lounge, city views, and cozy suites.

Amenities

The hotel will provide a one-stop shop for entertainment and adventure starting at check-in, with a complimentary drink.

Noda Market & Deli announced its final day of operation will be Saturday, May 31. The deli is known for its wings, sandwiches, and Grogu mural. Stop by for one last bite from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Queen City Grounds and Nightflyer Roasters abruptly closed their Uptown location. The coffee shop announced on Instagram, and thanked its customers and employees for eight years of service.

Eat

Today is National Burger Day and here’s how you can take a bite of the day. VINYL recommends ordering their signature umami-rich burger, paired with the Hollywood Nights shot — because Champagne + caviar + a burger = yum. Fun fact: More than 17,000 burgers have been ordered since the South End restaurant and bar opened in April 2022.

Tuesday was chillier than normal, and that’s rare. According to WCNC Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich, the Charlotte area hasn’t had a high of less than 61° in May since 1878. The good news: temperatures will climb back to the 80s by next week. (WCNC)

Canada-based AVL Manufacturing is opening a manufacturing facility in Charlotte — its first in the US. The company will build enclosures for industrial power generators at its facility at Westinghouse Logistics Park + is looking to hire 325+ people. (WCNC)

Transit

Expect delays on Slanting Bridge Road in Lake Norman. The bridge will undergo inspection starting June 2 + will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. The inspection is expected to last three weeks. (The Charlotte Observer)

Announced

The Queen City will not be hosting the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) 2027-2029 basketball tournaments. The CRVA cited scheduling conflicts as a key factor in the rejection. The tournament was held in Charlotte for 15 years before its departure in 2020. (WCNC)

Travel

Movin’ on up. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the third busiest connecting airport in the country, according to the Institute of Transportation Research and Education. Over 75% of flyers at CLT take connecting flights. (WCNC)

Sports

One step closer to the Calder Cup. The Charlotte Checkers are facing the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals this week. The best-of-seven series starts tonight in Laval, before the team comes home to Bojangles Coliseum for Games 3, 4, and 5 (if necessary). Tickets are on sale starting at $32.
