Time really does fly when you’re having fun. After a summer of excitement, it’s time for the kids to head back to the classroom.

We know there’s a lot happening during this busy season, so we asked the experts at Novant Health for ways to get your kids — and yourself — ready to go back to school.

For the kids

Establish a primary care doctor

Stay ahead of the game and find a pediatrician to help keep your child healthy throughout the year. From the common cold to random rashes, your kiddo’s primary care physician will be your partner in health all year long.

Get up-to-date on immunizations and physicals

Check the list of required immunizations to make sure your kid has the necessary vaccines for the start of the school year.

Have young athletes in the house? Be sure to get an updated physical, too.

Check up on any injuries

Sometimes accidents happen. If your child had any injuries over the summer (think: broken bones, twisted ankles, and sprained wrists), Novant Health offers same-day and walk-in orthopedic injury care to get them squared away before the start of the school year.

Everyone needs a primary care doctor, and it’s important to choose one you’re comfortable with.

For parents and caretakers

Get up-to-date on screenings

While taking care of the kids’ health, don’t forget about your own. Be sure to stay up to date with recommended screenings for your age range (think: mammograms, colorectal screenings, and more).

Did you know? Walk in mammogram appointments are available at the new breast center and in Ballantyne.

Make adjustments to your workout routine

Your schedule may look different during the school year, but that doesn’t mean you have to let your workout routine fall to the wayside.

Pro tip: All it takes is 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (like a hike or nature walk in a local park) a day to help keep your heart healthy.

Get aches and pains checked out

There’s a lot to keep up with during the school year — don’t let back pain hold you back. You can schedule a same-day back pain appointment at Novant Health.
